‘Special Initiatives’ are our focused efforts which can help to create a new world where peace and unity will be the foundation, diversity and dynamism its way of action, and harmony and happiness the constant results.
transcending pain, transforming lives
Sanjeevan, an initiative by Sri Aurobindo Society in collaboration with Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM), Kozhikode, Kerala, and HelpAge India, New Delhi, aims to practice an integral approach to end-of-life care in Puducherry, based on a spiritual foundation. This initiative aims to develop a comprehensive system of community-based care for the incurably ill, chronically bedridden, elderly and dying people in Puducherry, by taking care of their physical, psychological, social, emotional and spiritual needs; and to expand and support SACH (an initiative under our Health wing SAIIIHR) initiatives all over India and abroad. It is patient-centred, and not disease-focused.
transforming education, inspiring action
Rupantar aims to establish an education system that is based on deeper human values and empower children to be life-long learners and fulfilled, happy beings. Its approach is to harness the potential of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship to develop scalable, sustainable solutions focussing on refining the existing processes rather than creating altogether new systems.

every child is special
In India there are about 2.90 million Children with Special Needs (CWSNs). But most of these differently abled children do not have equal access to health care, education and employment opportunities. We need to create an inclusive world in which we are able to live a life of health, comfort and dignity.
AROHAN is our collaborative initiative with SATYA Special School (Puducherry) and College of Education, University of Oregon (Eugene, USA), to provide care, cure, rehabilitation and specialized services to children who are differently abled and guarantee holistic development. It is working to create a model of excellence of education for children with special needs, including a rural outreach programme.
a step towards new future
Puthiya Nambikkai (meaning ‘New Hope’ in Tamizh language) is a collaborative effort between Sri Aurobindo Society, Pondicherry Police Department, and Satya Special School, towards a) Prisoners Reformation and Rehabilitation and b) Awareness of Police Personnel in Puducherry (Central Prison, Kalapet, Puducherry), based on a deeper spiritual approach.
This initiative aims to be sustainable, scalable and replicable, and aspires to be a model of excellence and training centre for other prisons in India, and would bring together the best practices from India and the world. The programme also includes the prison staff and the spouses and children of the prisoners.

action in compassion
AuroJeeva, an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society, tries to bring about a change in people's attitude towards animals in general and street dogs in particular. As of now, this initiative has been dissolved.
Our special initiatives strive to bring together people from various backgrounds and are willing to work together for the greater cause of building a better, more beautiful future for all. Besides promoting awareness of the work undertaken, there are various levels at which volunteers can participate in these initiatives.
