Sanskrit Workshop at Hyderabad

Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Indian Culture (SAFIC), Puducherry, organized a day-long Sanskrit Workshop, conducted by Dr. Y.N. Rao, a famous linguist, at the premises of Veenapaani Samskruta Pathshala, Malkajgiri, Hyderabad (Telangana), on February 7, 2016.

The Workshop was attended by 14 participants from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The Workshop comprised of six sessions of one hour each. The first session started with the chanting of ‘OM’ mantra, followed by observance of silence for one minute. During this session, after the self-introduction by the participants, Dr. Y.N. Rao conducted the ‘Mantrayoga’ session comprising of ‘Chakra purification mantra’ through a few devotional verses.

In the second session Dr. Rao explained various scientific aspects of the Devanagari script.

The third and fourth sessions comprised of ‘Basics of Sanskrit Grammar’, wherein some Verbs along with their roots and Sanskrit vocabulary were introduced.

The fifth session was a lot of fun in which a few nursery rhymes, songs besides a story in Sanskrit were covered.

Mr. D. Ramakrishnan, a Sanskrit scholar from Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest and he joined the participants for the sixth and concluding session of the Workshop. He entertained the participants with some unique aspects of the spoken Sanskrit. Later, he handed over the course certificates to the participants. This was preceded by valuable feedback by the participants, wherein they all expressed their happiness and satisfaction all the aspects of the Workshop.

The Workshop concluded as it had started, with the chanting of ‘OM’ mantra followed by observance of silence for a minute.
