A two-day Management Development Programme, titled ‘Aligning Organizational and Individual Values’ was organized for the senior managers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) at their Management Development Institute (HPMDI) at Nigdi in Pune district. This workshop was conducted on June 23 and 24, 2015, by Professor Saikat Sen, Director, Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Integral Management (SAFIM), Centre of Excellence in Management of Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry.
There is at present a general agreement among progressive thinkers in business and management that values are the foundation of long-term effectiveness of an organization. However there is not much systematic thinking on the applied aspects of values or in other words how to realize these values in the inner being and the outer life of the individual and in collectivity. This Workshop examined value education in the corporate context, based on the insights of an integral yogic psychology. The integral approach to values views value education as a process of psychological harvesting by which the seed of values is sown, implanted and cultivated into the soil of consciousness.
For an integral realization of values in the corporate life, various methods were utilized and applied for internalizing the values in the consciousness of the individual as well as organizing them in the outer collective life. Some of these included:
1. Audio-visual presentation
2. Questionnaire based discussion
3. Real life case discussion, analysis and presentation
4. Video-case discussion
5. Learning through music
6. Learning through movies
The objective of the programme was to enable participants to identify, interpret and describe the behavioural requirements for Value Actualization in the organization in the present scenario of increasing competition. The training program also enabled participants to identify and align their personal valuesamd behaviours with those of their organization—HPCL—for growth and renewal for themselves and the organization. All the participants showed active involvement and keen interest in the training programme and made it a grand success.
