In the month of May 2004, for the sixth consecutive year SARVAM organized its Children’s Corner Summer Camp, which was a bigger and better venture than years before, as is always our effort. It is a major effort to keep 300 students thriving, learning and yet enjoying day after day in the Camp which requires an extremely well-coordinated programme schedule and logistics taken care of by the in-charge students and volunteers. A foremost change this year was, unlike earlier camps, most of the activities were held in small groups. Several temporary structures were erected so that all the classes could be limited to 30 students or less. In every corner of Satyam Community Centre, children could be seen happily engaged with their teachers as they explored new concepts or skills.
This year, the advances in the professionalism of the presenters, the level of cooperation among the parents and students, and the engagement during the activities represented a qualitative leap over any prior sessions. This is exemplified by the children who attended the camp without absence despite extraordinarily high temperatures and even mild illnesses. But more importantly, one only need look at the faces of the students and listen to their expressions of delight to know that the month camp was a deeply meaningful and enjoyable experience.
