The annual ALL INDIA YOUTH CAMP, this year themed PIXELS AND THE CANVAS, was organized at Puducherry from 3 to 11 January 2014, under the sponsorship of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), New Delhi. A total of 42 participants from 13 states of India, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, participated with a lot of youthful verve and enthusiasm. Shri Kaivalya Smart, the Camp Director; and Shivakumar, the Camp Co-ordinator, along with a team of resource persons conducted the camp.

Organised at ‘timeless’ Puducherry, Sri Aurobindo Society has been hosting youth aged between 18 and 25 for youth camps for the last 28 years, in an effort to ignite a spark for growth and progress, in the light of the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The young people are brought together to find their higher potentialities and capabilities and also to explore their place and aim in life, in a united collective aspiration.

Objectives of the Camp

The main objectives of the Camp included:

•    Help the youth to discover themselves—physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
•    Inspire the youth to unearth their aim in life and assist them in realizing it.
•    Make the youth conscious of their great heritage, the current problems that plague our nation and their role in building a new and vibrant India.
•    Awaken the youth to their great future and prepare them, spiritually and mentally, to play their role in all aspects of social life.

Over all, it was an enriching experience as it allowed the participants to fathom and infer how as a person they could become distinct pixels, making their mark within the colourful canvas of life by ‘remaining’ young forever and in pursuit of greater goals, individually as well as collectively.

Some feedback from the participants:

“I learnt one thing from it, that if you lose confidence (and concentration, of course) even one bit, you lose the balances, else you could just breeze through it… and that’s what I enjoyed experiencing! The treasure hunt, the days’ meals amidst nature… with a much better ambience indeed!”
~ Sathya Balasegaran (Puducherry)

“Really, the way the youth camp started, the way each event [was] organized and the protection of the higher force behind all…is something inexpressible in words! Though we expressed our ideas in individual tones, I could feel the one divine energy behind this individuality which is leading us towards light, love, knowledge and fulfilment.”
~ Ramageethan N. (Tamil Nadu)

“Me being too practical in life had made my life very materialistic, but the new way of looking at life makes me fall in love with nature, flowers, animals and experience all those beautiful emotions which I would otherwise put it under reasoning and logic… Thank you so much for changing my life and giving a new direction to it.”
~ Adishree Kulkarni (Maharashtra)

“This journey was incredible. I have no words to express! After coming, I have found myself… I have learnt more discipline, decency, time punctuality, and confidence. Totally, I have surrendered.”
~ Sachin Patil (Karnataka)

“I am ready to go to my hometown and meet my family and friends. I feel delighted. The fear, hesitation in interaction with others has completely gone. Now my friends and family will see a new Vikas.”
~ Vikas Gupta (Madhya Pradesh)

“I felt that this camp as a whole has a soul of its own and this journey was meant to help me grow towards progressive perfection.”
~ Adwait Pathak (Andhra Pradesh)
