Newness & repetition in Yoga

Start Date:13-May-2024

End Date:17-May-2024

Location:Online and on campus

Institute:AuroYajna, Puducherry

AuroYajna continues the series of workshops titled "Towards Self Perfection” started in July 2021 as their first step towards Divine Life in Divine Body.

This series is based on Sri Aurobindo's message - "Divine Life cannot manifest without the Divine Body".

Part 1 of the series is "Perfection of the Body".

To have the body as a perfect instrument, every system of the body, viz. the digestive system, the neurological system, the cardiovascular system, and each body organ needs to be perfected and in harmony amongst themselves.

This month, if the Yoga is old or new is what we discuss and practice in the light of Sri Aurobindo’s yoga

I have never said that my Yoga was something brand new in all its elements. I have called it the integral Yoga and that means that it takes up the essence and many processes of the old Yogas - its newness is in its aim, standpoint and the totality of its method. In the earlier stages which is all I deal with in books like the Riddle or the Lights or in the new book to be published there is nothing in it that distinguishes it from the old Yogas except the aim underlying its comprehensiveness, the spirit in its movements and the ultimate significance it keeps before it

-CWSA 29:399-401

The traditions of the past are very great in their own place, in the past; but I do not see why we should merely repeat them and not go farther. In the spiritual development of the consciousness upon earth the great past ought to be followed by a greater future. 1

-CWSA 29:480

Lord, Thou hast willed, and I execute: A new light breaks upon the earth, A new world is born.

The things that were promised are fulfilled.

-The Mother, 29 February - 29 March

"Our Yoga is not a retreading of old walks, but a spiritual adventure."

"We of the coming day stand at the head of a new age of development.... We do not belong to the past dawns, but to the noons of the future."

-Sri Aurobindo, Essays on the Gita: Our Demand and Need from the Gita
